When Mike White checked into The White Lotus
Hawaii in 2021, the world followed en masse–sunhats on, expectations high, and utterly unprepared for the storm beneath the surface. What began as a luxury escape quickly unraveled into a vacation package wrapped in silk, but laced in venom. With each new season, White led the guests deep into a twisted Eden, where paradise wore a mask and danger lounged poolside. Now, with the Thailand chapter stamped and sealed, and no fresh boarding pass in sight, fans are left adrift, floating in limbo, searching for their next dark, delicious dose of drama. Although the streaming current is still, Netflix is to the rescue.
So, here are five Netflix shows that just might fill the eerie void The White Lotus
left behind.
The Perfect Couple
For those missing the enigma of The White Lotus
, The Perfect Couple
should be on your watchlist! This Netflix mystery drama is based on Elin Hilderbrand’s namesake novel, which premiered last September. The Perfect Couple
is set in Nantucket and revolves around a lavish wedding marred by a shocking homicide.
The wedding soon becomes the backdrop for a spine-chilling whodunit, where guests turn into suspects.

Though the Netflix library has a zero shortage of crime thrillers
, The Perfect Couple
stands out and reeks of star power. It stars Nicole Kidman, Liev Schreiber, Eve Hewson, Billy Howle, Meghann Fahy, Donna Lynne Champlin, Jack Reynor, Michael Beach, Ishaan Khatter, Sam Nivola, Mia Isaac, and Dakota Fanning, among others. Interestingly, Nivola was part of the star-studded cast of The White Lotus
season 3, and Kidman would give anything to become part of Mike White’s universe.
Susanne Bier directed The Perfect Couple
, and Jenna Lamia is the showrunner. The Netflix series has eight episodes.
Dead to Me
Dead to Me
is an American black comedy-drama series on Netflix. The show follows Jen, a widowed real-estate agent based in Laguna Beach, California, who tries to cope with her loss through therapy and exercise, and Judy.
Jen channels her grief into anger and resentment, which becomes her emotional outlet.

She meets Judy, who claims to be mourning the loss of her fiancé to a heart attack at a grief support group. However, unbeknownst to Jen, Judy is actually the perpetrator of a hit-and-run that claimed her husband’s life, and her fiancé merely ended their relationship. Dead to Me
on Netflix stars Christina Applegate, Linda Cardellini, James Marsden, Max Jenkins, Sam McCarthy, and Luke Roessler.

Liz Feldman created the Netflix show and serves as the executive producer alongside Will Ferrell, Adam McKay, and Jessica Elbaum. Dead to
Me
has 3 seasons, the last of which premiered in 2022.
Harlan Coben’s Safe
Harlan Coben and Netflix have a relationship that never fails to delive
r. Although this year, the crime author’s partnership with the streaming sensation has already taken the sales of the popcorn industry up by a notch, Coben and Netflix released a one-of-a-kind drama miniseries in 2017, Safe
, that resonates with The White Lotus
’ journey into the unknown, with its often flawed characters and their intricate relationships.

With mystery and suspense at its core, Harlan Coben’s Safe
follows Briton Tom Delaney, a paediatric surgeon and a widowed father of two teenage daughters. The show begins with the sufferings of Briton, who struggles to communicate with his kids after losing his wife to cancer a year ago. However, after his 16-year-old daughter goes missing, his frantic search for her opens a vault of deep secrets.
Safe
stars Michael C. Hall, Amanda Abbington, Marc Warren, Audrey Fleurot, Hannah Arterton, Nigel Lindsay, Laila Rouass, and Joplin Sibtain, among others.
Ozark
is one of the most commercially successful Netflix crime drama series of all time, starring Jason Bateman and Laura Linney. The show follows Marty and Wendy Byrde, a married couple who relocate to the Lake of the Ozarks to continue funneling their illicit funds by washing the narcotic dollars and hiding the cartel earnings.
Bill Dubuque and Mark Williams created the show for the streamer, and Bateman serves as the lead, one of the directors, and an executive producer for Ozark
.
Although Ozark
does not mirror the storyline of The White Lotus
, it taps into similar themes, exploring the dark, cutthroat world of ambition, where morally corrupt characters stop at nothing to gain wealth and power.
Both shows peel back the layers of privilege and greed, revealing how far people will go when money is on the line.
Beef
Beef
is a successful comedy-drama television anthology series on Netflix starring Steven Yeun and Ali Wong as Danny Cho and Amy Lau. Although they begin as strangers, a road-rage incident turns them into cynics who engage in psychological warfare, turning their petty beef into a prolonged feud. Despite their plot difference with The White Lotus
, both shows offer a biting satirical social commentary, featuring complex and unlikable characters that drive the plot forward.

Additionally, the Emmy-winning series and Mike White’s universe make the optimum use of mystery and suspense, touching on the dichotomy of social class and privilege. So, for anyone who wants a bit of that dark humor, layered storytelling, and a plunge into the world of uncertainty, Netflix has its deck of cards open and ready for a streaming shuffle.
