In the land where directors either tremble at studio notes or sell their souls for box office hits, Robert Eggers builds strange, unbending temples to myth and madness. From The Witch
, where Puritan repression curdled into goat-whispering horror, to The Lighthouse
, a salty fever dream that smelled of kerosene and male hysteria, Eggers has turned meticulous historical detail into artful psychosis. Then came The Northman
, all blood and Norse brutality, proving once more he directs like a man possessed. Naturally, he is returning to the woods.
This time it is with Werwulf,
starring Lily-Rose Depp and Aaron Taylor-Johnson, where howls promise art and possibly trauma.
Lily-Rose Depp and Aaron Taylor Johnson to join hands with Robert Eggers once again
Robert Eggers is about to take another walk on the dark side, this time with a werewolf tale named Werwulf
. Aaron Taylor-Johnson, fresh from his turn in Nosferatu
, is back in Eggers’ cryptic fold, bringing his brooding intensity along for the ride, as per Nexus Pont News
. Meanwhile, Lily-Rose Depp, the gothic beauty from last year’s Nosferatu
, may also join the howl of the pack. It seems the horror genre is fast becoming Lily-Rose Depp’s domain, fitting, since the apple does not fall far from the tree.
Eggers will direct Werwulf
from a screenplay he co-wrote with Icelandic author and screenwriter Sjón, who previously worked with Eggers on The Northman
. The film is being produced by Eggers and Sjón, with Focus Features handling distribution. Additionally, Chris and Eleanor Columbus of Maiden Voyage will serve as executive producers on the project. The involvement of such seasoned professionals has already generated significant interest in the upcoming horror film.

With a lineup so captivating that one might mistake the werewolves for sirens, it is no exaggeration to say Werwulf
has already gathered a following, eagerly awaiting the full moon to rise on the film’s release.
What to expect from Werewulf
Werwulf
, set in the flea-ridden gloom of 13th-century England, promises more than just moonlit mayhem. With director Robert Eggers at the helm, one can expect meticulous historical detail, dim candlelight, and enough Old English to make Shakespeare reach for subtitles. Aaron Taylor-Johnson, known for balancing brooding intensity with bursts of chaos as seen in Nocturnal Animals
and Bullet Train,
is well-suited to howl with both menace and elegance.

Lily-Rose Depp, who is also starring in a forbidden gothic romance with Jacob Elordi
, brings that whispery brand of eeriness that suggests her characters might float off the ground at any moment, ideal for a cursed medieval maiden or a lupine sympathizer. Add to this a script co-written by Robert Eggers and Sjón, whose past collaboration birthed the berserk The Northman
, and one can only assume there will be blood, fur, and a solid chance someone will be devoured while reciting an epic poem. Focus Features may have found its most educated beast yet.
