Long before the Marvel logo became as common as ketchup on a diner table, Ben Affleck tried his hand at masked valor in Daredevil, a performance equal parts battered pride and battered body. The critics sniffed, the fans bickered, and Affleck, wise man, moved on to more adult pastimes like brooding in better suits. He never returned to Marvel’s spandex parade, preferring his drama neat, no cape required. Yet, despite it all, the comic book heart in him never quite packed up its bags.
With a wink and a shrug, Affleck has now confessed his favorite Marvel character, and the choice is as delightfully odd as you hoped.
Ben Affleck reveals his surprising Marvel favorite
During an episode of GOAT Talk by Complex
, Ben Affleck and Jon Bernthal sat down to debate their personal greatest-of-all-time picks across various categories. When asked about his favorite Marvel character, Affleck answered, “Wolverine probably, dude,”
before adding a nod to Punisher as well. Reflecting on his childhood comic book memories, Affleck explained, “I am thinking back to when I like read the comics. I like Punisher, but I think Wolverine was probably the (best),”
solidifying his admiration for the clawed antihero.
Ben Affleck, who recently revealed his biggest critics
, showed a rare nostalgic side in the conversation. While Bernthal, known for portraying Frank Castle in The Punisher
, defended his character fiercely, Affleck’s affection for Wolverine captured the spirit of a longtime comic book fan rather than that of a Hollywood A-lister.
With all this talk about Marvel and a talented actor who has yet to star in one of its films, it is only fair to indulge in a bit of fancasting.
Ben Affleck could nail these uncast Marvel characters
With Charlie Cox now taking the mantle of Daredevil, Ben Affleck’s chance to reprise his role is no longer on the table. But there are still many Marvel characters that would benefit from Affleck’s acting prowess. An alternate-universe Hawkeye would be ideal, weathered, cynical, but still holding onto his moral code. Affleck’s emotional depth would bring a new dimension to the character. Alternatively, Kraven the Hunter, with his obsession and relentless pursuit, would also be a great fit for Affleck’s intensity.

im tired of seeing Ben Affleck’s Daredevil getting overshadowed by MCU Daredevil as Ben Affleck is JUST as GOATED as Daredevil like Charlie Cox is https://t.co/es1bkVJiO6 pic.twitter.com/6AYhu1If98

Ultimately, while Affleck’s Daredevil may seem like a past chapter, Marvel’s multiverse gives hope. Like multiple Spider-Men, a return could still happen, perhaps in a new, unexpected form. In the meantime, the MCU offers ample opportunities for him to take on complex characters, from antiheroes like Hawkeye to fierce villains like Kraven.
