Henry Cavill Loyalists Scream Hypocrite at James Gunn’s ‘Superman’ Fans Over A ‘John Wick’ Moment

Henry Cavill

loyalists have not exactly been welcoming of the fact that the British hunk will no longer play Superman after defining the role for years. As David Corenswet steps into the iconic role of Clark Kent under James Gunn’s direction, the former actor’s fans are not letting any opportunity pass to draw comparisons between the two, and this time they are doing so by dragging John Wick in the mix.

In a fresh onslaught of criticism directed at David Corenswet, Henry Cavill fans are calling out DC enthusiasts for turning a blind eye to his reaction in a situation that would have gotten Cavill’s iteration of Superman in a pickle. Cavill fans have been flooding X, with criticism over Gunn and Corenswet’s Superman losing his temper when Lex Luthor hides his dog in a recent sequence, pointing out the irony that Cavill’s Superman was once slammed for showing emotion after the same archnemesis kidnapped and threatened to kill his mother in an earlier film.

For those new to the always emotionally charged DC universe, Cavill being the center of criticism for always acting overly serious while playing Superman was not exactly an unheard phenomenon. It explains why his fans have always been protective of him and continue to speak on his behalf, even when he himself has left his stint in the past.

Well, as DC forges ahead with a new Man of Steel and a new director at the helm, fans are not just drawing comparisons—they are hurling them like kryptonite across the digital timeline in a battle of sentiment versus logic.

Henry Cavill fans slam James Gunn’s Superman over John Wick-style outburst: Justified?

The internet erupted over what Henry Cavill fans called a John Wick moment for James Gunn’s Superman, as they argued the new iteration of the Earth’s vigilante was overly excessive in his response to Lex hiding his dog. On the other hand, Gunn and Corenswet’s supporters argue that Cavill fans’ comparison of their Superman with Homelander is itself unfair, as the latter is a disturbed, vengeful assassin. The latter faction also plainly called out Cavill fans for being blind in their loyalty towards him, insinuating that it must have something to do with their s–ualities.

Meanwhile, neutral X users could not have enjoyed the battle between Cavill and DC loyalists more. Labelling the whole discourse vague and uncalled for, one user simply asked people to calm down, while another agreed with both parties, explaining how they were not even aware of the supposed preferential treatment Gunn received from DC fans until Snyder fans pointed it out.

Despite a rather balanced debate, there is no denying that Cavill left an indelible mark on the character of Superman, playing the superhero in multiple movies.

With that said, it is also somewhat disheartening to see Corenswet being sidelined even before his full appearance on the big screen. His movie comes out on July 11.
