Hollywood is a casino royale of creativity, where the spotlight shines bright, but the stakes are higher. Sony’s Spider-Man Universe made a super-sized gamble on a teenage animator, and it paid off in spades. But just as James Gunn’s Superman
was taking flight with its teaser trailer, the same animator delivered a Kryptonite-sized twist that left fans up, up, and away, still reeling from the shock. While Hollywood has always been a high-stakes game of chance where stars roll the dice for relevance, this LEGO super shocker had fans struggling to come down to earth.
Preston Mutanga, a 16-year-old animator who curated the LEGO sequence for Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse
when he was 14, recreated the entire Superman
teaser trailer in LEGO.
The young animator shared it after days of hints, tagging James Gunn, David Corenswet, DC’s official social media handle alongside Warner Bros. Pictures. While the LEGO sequence of Spider-Verse
was a showstopper that made headlines year long, the Superman
recreation is treading a similar discourse of frenzy.

Previously, Preston Mutanga made a LEGO version of Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse
trailer, leading to his hiring for the movie’s very own LEGO scene. Although back in the day, the studio’s top dogs confronted quite a dilemma about whether hiring the then 14-year-old was even legal, it soon became a dream come true for Mutanga when the job offer came his way. Now that fans have been treated to another LEGO edition with a comic jumpship from Marvel to DC, fans are back to square one.
