Lily-Rose Depp Defends ‘Euphoria’ Creator Following Backlash for His Latest Short-Lived HBO Drama

The Idol

was the project everyone had their eyes on, mostly because of the big names attached to it—including BLACKPINK star Jennie Kim. But right from the start, The Idol

had a rough filming and production process. The real controversy, though, started because of its sexually explicit subject matter, which some critics felt was degrading to its main female character. The show was short-lived, but that did not stop it from becoming the center of attention on social media, where people slammed it—and Sam Levinson— for being overly suggestive.

Now, the show’s lead actress, Lily-Rose Depp, has come forward to defend the filmmaker Sam Levinson against all the criticism.

Lily-Rose Depp stands by Sam Levinson’s vision with The Idol

Even though The Idol

aired nearly two years ago, Lily-Rose Depp is once again stepping in to back up Sam Levinson and their work together. Calling him a “great friend

” and “family

,” Depp, during an appearance on the Happy Sad Confused

podcast

, slammed the haters for “talking –it”

about the filmmaker. For Depp, that was the only downside of the whole experience—not the bad reviews or the negative press.

Creator Sam Levinson has long been accused of using a gratuitous amount of nudity in his work—something that often makes his viewers uncomfortable, including Euphoria

star Sydney Sweeney

’s family. But like Depp, Sweeney has also defended Levinson’s vision

, even when it comes to his use of excessive explicit content in The Idol.

But for Depp, this was not the first time she has stood by the show.

Last year, Depp shared her thoughts on the series getting canceled after season 1 and explained why she has no regrets about starring in it.

Lily-Rose Depp is happy with her decision to be the lead of The Idol

In an interview with Vanity Fair, Lily-Rose Depp made her feelings clear about the whole The Idol

controversy. She stated, “Honestly, I love it

.” She explained that even while they were making the show, they knew it was going to be polarizing and that not everyone would be on board with it. But, she added, “I stand by it. We made a choice, and we went for it

.”

Depp and the other cast members knew exactly what they were getting into, and they were ready for whatever came their way. During the interview, she also admitted to feeling a little sad when the show got canceled after just one season. But the good news is that Euphoria

season 3 is still in the works, and fans will get another taste of Sam Levinson’s wild ride soon enough.
