‘Monster’ Season 3: Is Netflix’s Signature Anthology Series Returning, Following ‘Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story’s Underwhelming Performance?

Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story

was released last week and quickly climbed to the top of Netflix’s streaming chart. It followed the success of the 2022 series Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story

, the first in the anthology, where Netflix fans explored the life and crimes of the notorious titular serial killer. In its first weekend, the second season reportedly attracted 12.3 million views. However, this initial excitement soon shifted to negativity and harsh criticism, and the show was slammed by Netflix viewers everywhere.

Amid the controversy surrounding the second season of the Monster

anthology, here is a look at the prospects for a third season on Netflix.

Will there be a Monster season 3?

Monsters:
The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story

now officially ranks among one of Ryan Murphy’s
worst-rated shows. The Netflix true crime series currently holds a 44% approval
rating on Rotten Tomatoes. However, the underwhelming rating is unlikely to hinder the third season, as
Murphy has already confirmed that production for the next installment of the Monster

anthology will begin next month.

This time,
the story will center on Ed Gein, the infamous serial killer and
grave robber who has long been a fixture in pop culture. Actor Charlie Hunnam,
best known for his role as Jax on
Sons of Anarchy,

is about to take on the American killer’s role. However, Murphy will need to be careful to dodge the factual errors this time, as it has been a major letdown in the
second installment- and not just for the fans.
