With an impressive portfolio of diverse roles under her belt, Julia Garner is well-loved and a household name today. However, her stunning performance as Ruth Langmore in Ozark will forever remain etched in our minds. As it turns out, the crime Fatale with a mouth is also extremely precious to the actor herself.

Granted, Julia Garner was part of the industry well before the Netflix crime drama, but her role in Ozark got her on the map. From her great screen presence, impeccable dialogue delivery, and amazing chemistry with her co-stars, it is hardly a shocker that she won many awards for her portrayal of Ruth. So why should this Emmy season be any different?

An emotional Julia Garner thanks the Ozark team for Ruth

The 74th Primetime Emmy Awards took place on September 12. The category of Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series had some head-turner nominees. Beating out Patricia Arquette (Severance), Jung Ho-Yeon (Squid Game), Christina Ricci (Yellowjackets), Rhea Seehorn (Better Call Saul), Sydney Sweeny (Euphoria) as well as J.Smith-Cameron and Sarah Snook (Succession), actress Julia Garner emerged victorious yet again for her role as Ruth Langmore in Netflix’s Ozark.

Having bagged the award in 2019, and in 2020, this is Garner’s third Primetime Emmy. Understandably, the actress was extremely overwhelmed as she expressed her gratitude to the entire team of Ozark, as well as her family. She specifically thanked the showrunner Chris Mundy and the entire writers’ room.

“Thank you for writing Ruth. She’s changed my life,” said Julia, almost welling up. Wrapping up her acceptance speech, Julia said, “I feel really grateful to be here. I have 8 seconds left… to be here and to play Ruth and to be with such amazing, beautiful artists.”

Ruth is one of Garner’s most memorable performances. With her iconic dialogues coupled with her ‘Ruth‘less delivery and the signature southern accent, it was no surprise that she took home the Emmy.
