‘Stranger Things’ Fans Predict Songs for Season 5 Which Can Be the Next ‘Running Up That Hill’

Set in the 1980s, all four seasons of the show are packed with multiple throwback hits that perfectly does justice to the retro vibes of the decade. Whether it is for amplifying a heart-pounding moment, hinting at what is to come next, or just giving a nod to the golden age, the songs on the series’ soundtrack are never just background scores.

‘Running Up That Hill’, for instance, became a recurring theme throughout season 4 of Stranger Things

. Max, played by Sadie Sink, listened to the iconic track over and over again as a way to cope with her teenage angst, which ultimately also helped her escape the Upside Down. The choice of this song was especially perfect because it conveyed Max’s internal emotions, grief and trauma, which she could not easily express herself. Now, fans on Reddit are wondering which ’80s anthem will take over the fifth and final season of the Netflix sci-fi horror. 

Kate Bush’s ‘Running Up That Hill’ quickly became a sensation

after getting featured in season 4. It not only soared up the music charts, like that of iTunes, but also introduced itself to a whole new generation of fans. The song topped charts in a total of eight countries, amassed over a billion streams on Spotify, and brought the British singer, Bush roughly $2.3 million in streaming royalties. And fans have a slew of guesses as to which songs are going to get a feature in the fifth season, keeping in mind the tension of the epic final Hawkins battle.

Over on Reddit, fans are now flooding the platform with their predictions about what songs from the ’80s is best suited for the final season.

has nailed its ability to pull viewers into the colorful, nostalgic world of the 1980s with its music choices. But no song has made a bigger impact than ‘Running Up That Hill’. Fans are now calling for other iconic ’80s tracks to get their moment. While some are rooting for David Bowie’s ‘Heroes,’ others suggested Diana Ross’ ‘Upside Down’. One fan even proposed ‘For Whom the Bell Tolls’ by Metallica for a dramatic battle scene.

Other songs, like ‘It’s the End of the World as We Know It (And I Feel Fine)’ by R.E.M., have also been brought up. Songs like ‘Everybody Wants to Rule the World’ and ‘You Can Call Me Al’ were also being tossed into for the soundtrack in season 5. Even with all these guesses, fans will have to wait a bit longer to see which song will become the anthem for the final season.
