Netflix has a Tomb Raider anime series in the works. What do we know about the anime adaptation of the famous video game franchise? When is it coming and what to expect?

Tomb Raider is one of the longest-running video game series in the world. It was adapted into various forms of entertainment in the past. With more than 10 games on different platforms, it also introduced the most famous female protagonist in a video game series, Lara Croft. The synopsis of the video games and the movies revolves around a young archeologist. We all know her as Lara Croft. But to her enemies and thousands of mysteries waiting to be unveiled, she is Tomb Raider.

And the good news is Netflix is developing an anime title based on the video game. We know that it is officially happening and will be available to stream on the service sometime in the future. Now that the streaming giant has taken a huge step into the world of games, we will see many shows similar to this one. Netflix already has a lot on its plate as it is making an Assassin’s Creed, Cyberpunk 2077, Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon, and Splinter Cell adaptations. On top of that, there are also live-action adaptations on the way as well.

With that said, fans are curious about the Tomb Raider anime and its release date on Netflix. We have gathered all the info out there to inform you about the anime’s current status.

Tomb Raider Anime Production Started

The most iconic heroine in video games is jumping to animation! Tomb Raider is a new anime series from @Legendary following Lara Croft after the events of the video-game reboot trilogy.

Legendary is helming the production. We also know that the title will follow the events after Shadow of the Tomb Raider. The writer of the series will be Tasha Huo who also served in the development of The Witcher Vesemir anime series. Dmitri M. Johnson is among the executive producers of the upcoming adaptation. He worked on Sonic the Hedgehog too. So it is safe to say that the crew behind the show is a solid team.

What is the release date of the Tomb Raider anime?

The streaming giant announced the title back in January 2021. Knowing that this year is the 25th anniversary of the famous video game franchise, the studio is probably aiming to release it before this year ends. Although that might be a bit optimistic and we might as well see the anime in early 2022.

Is Tomb Raider movie on Netflix?

Other adaptations of the hit video game series starred some of the most famous names like Angelina Jolie and Alicia Vikander. The latest installment of the game on the screens was the Tomb Raider movie that came out in 2018. We can also tell that the film franchise will continue with another sequel. Though like the anime adaptation, it does not have a release date yet and it is not available on Netflix.

With that said, Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life starring Angelina Jolie is available to watch on Netflix Japan and Netflix Sweden. The 2001 movie on the other hand, can be watched by subscribers who live in Germany and Japan.
