is based on Jang Da-hye’s 2021 novel Tangeum: Swallowing Gold. Dear Hongrang,

follows The Sims, the largest merchant family in the Joseon era, who run the Min Family’s Guild.

The matriarch of the Sims, Yeol-guk, has two children: Jae-yi and Hongrang. But one day, the Sims’ only son and heir, Hongrang, disappears into thin air, making Yeol-guk seek a new heir in Mu-jin, whose prestigious family fell from grace.

Jae-yi eventually grows close to her adopted brother, but she never lets go of her search for Hongrang. Then, 12 years later, Hongrang returns to everyone’s surprise. Everyone is overjoyed at Hongrang’s return except Jae-yi, who grows suspicious of the man who claims to be her estranged brother. Overcome with conviction that the one who returned is not Hongrang, she goes on a mission to find out the truth. But between her desperate search for the real Hongrang, she must confront her feelings for the new stranger.

takes place at the Min Family’s Guild in the South Korean mountains during the existence of the Joseon dynasty, which lasted from 1392 to 1910.
