Where Is ‘The Last of Us’ Season 2 Filmed? A Look Into the Dystopian World’s Location

In the fungal apocalypse wonderland of The Last of Us

, decay has never looked so grimly photogenic. Season 2 transforms ordinary landscapes into extraordinary portraits of civilization’s collapse, where every crumbling wall tells a story. This visual alchemy, achieved through a marriage of practical sets and real-world locations, crafted a universe simultaneously familiar yet unnervingly alien—our world, but with humanity’s footprint slowly being erased.

While the world falls apart, the landscapes change right along with it, setting the stage for the characters’ struggles. But as the scenery shifts, so do their fates…

Nature shapes the apocalypse in The Last of Us season 2

The Canadian wilderness plays stunt double for post-apocalyptic America

as The Last of Us s

eason 2 planted its production flag firmly in British Columbia’s versatile terrain.

Vancouver’s gritty Downtown Eastside, atmospheric Chinatown, and verdant Stanley Park transform into Seattle’s contested zones, while Nanaimo on Vancouver Island moonlights as Capitol Hill, complete with the fictional Serevena Hotel. North of Vancouver, Britannia Beach undergoes a Wyoming makeover to become Jackson, Joel, and Ellie’s tentative sanctuary. Mission, Langley, and Fort Langley round out the portfolio, delivering the rugged, snow-dusted environments essential to the narrative’s harsh reality.

Alberta refused to completely surrender its The Last of Us

credentials despite the production’s westward migration. Calgary, already famous for its Western film pedigree, lent its urban bones to critical scenes that required metropolitan gravitas. Meanwhile, Exshaw emerged as winter’s champion, delivering the bone-chilling visual frigidity that perfectly mirrored the story’s emotional temperature. This geographical diversity created a patchwork wasteland so convincingly bleak that viewers found themselves checking their own windows for spore clouds and clickers.

Apocalypse expands: The Last of Us season 3 confirmed

Mushroom zombies are not the only things multiplying, HBO officially announced The Last of Us

season 3 on April 9, 2025, well before season 2 even hit screens. Co-creators Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann can barely contain their apocalyptic glee about continuing the journey. Production wheels start turning in summer 2025 in Vancouver under the cryptic working title Mega Sword.

Season 3 aims to complete The Last of Us Part II’s gaming narrative, potentially bringing the adaptation full circle. Barring catastrophes of the non-fungal variety, expect the new season late 2026 or early 2027.

The wasteland reunion tour continues as Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey reclaim their roles as the emotionally complicated Joel and increasingly complex Ellie for season 3. Kaitlyn Dever also returns to swing Abby Anderson’s golf club of vengeance after her season 2 debut. While the full cast list remains more secretive than FEDRA operations, promotional posters, like before,

will likely drip-feed character revelations as filming progresses.
