‘High on the Hog’ Confirmed to Release for a Season 2 on Netflix

Netflix just renewed “High on the Hog: The African American Cookbook Transformed America” for season 2. African-American food and culture journey has yet another chapter soon.

Now the streaming platform ordered a second season “High on the Hog” on Netflix. This critically acclaimed series celebrates the creativity, resourcefulness, and courage of African Americans who helped to define American food and street culture. The culture series is also adapted from Jessica B. Harris’ book on food history. It is part cookbook and part travelogue. The series follows Stephen Satterfield, a food writer, as he shares his extensive, eclectic culinary history, which includes the Civil War, Juneteenth, and the present. It features Western African stews and soul food, fine dining, and barbecue.

Roger Ross Williams is the director and producer of the series, while Karis Jagger and Fabienne Toback are executive producers. It is a One Story Up production, which was founded by Geoff Martz and Ross Williams. He also commented about the series: “I am so thrilled to announce the second season of High on the Hog with Netflix and to be able to continue this incredible journey through Black food and culture. It has been wonderful to see the powerful reaction audiences had to our first season and we hope to further amplify and empower the Black culinary story and experience.”

And the other producers also added that: “We are elated to have the opportunity to share more of the incredibly rich history of African Americans. The next chapter of High on the Hog has many more beautiful untold histories. Numerous people reached out to ask us if there would be more and we are incredibly excited that Netflix has agreed to another season. The best is yet to come.”

Based on Jessica B. Harris‘ book, the series was created and released the first season on Netflix in May 2021. The series’ first season is now available on Netflix. It consists of four episodes that take viewers to Benin, West Africa as well as the United States from South Carolina to Texas, Philadelphia, New York, and back. The show tells the stories behind African American food and the relationship it has to Black history. Sommelier Stephen Satterfield hosts.

It includes an emotional moment at a site that commemorates the slave trade in Ouidah to a tour of Juneteenth desserts, traditions, and desserts. This is a sprawling and beautifully photographed view, with traditional sounds from South Carolina’s Geechee Gullah ring Shouters.
