After Bridgerton season 2 hit the screens last month, fans have had many a thing to say about the changes the series has made from the books. A lot of these changes have divided the Bridgerton fanbase- from changing Edwina’s entire character to the cultural differences, and many other changes. Here’s what the author of the Bridgerton books, Julia Quinn, has to say about all of this.
The scene from the books that Quinn felt like should be in the Netflix adaptation and one from the series she wishes she had written
Julia Quinn isn’t entirely out of the decision-making process of the Netflix adaptation. She serves as a creative consultant to the series, meaning that she is free to make suggestions, only that the right to make the decision lies with ShondaLand. Although Quinn doesn’t mind any changes, the one particular scene that she felt should be in the adaptation very strongly is that of pall mall. If you’re wondering why pall-mall is a big deal, here’s your answer to the same.

Apart from how crucial this scene is, Quinn also chose it because of fans’ love of “group scenes“. She said, “all the scenes that I hear about the most from people, it’s always these group scenes.” Hence, it only made sense that this very essential one had to be a part of the adaptation.
Another scene that was a part of the Netflix Original, but not of the series, is the family dance scene after Edwina breaks off her wedding with Anthony. The two families arrange a ball, but no one turns up. What began as a rather disappointing scene turned into one of the best of the season.
When Bridgerton season 2 hit the screens, this scene became a favorite of many, including actress Adjoa Andoh (Lady Danbury). In reference to this scene, all Quinn had to say was, “I wish I’d written that.”
