Michael B Jordan is developing his own Val-Zod Superman project for HBO Max.

UPDATE: Collider has since learned the project will in fact be a limited series for HBO MAx.

Set to focus on Val-Zod, Collider says that Michael B Jordan and his production company Outlier Society are working on the HBO Max project. Outlier Society has hired a writer to helm the project, though it’s currently unclear who it is. It’s also currently unknown if the project will be a movie or a limited series, as well as if B. Jordan will be starring as Superman. The Black Panther star will produce the film either way.

In 2019, Michael B Jordan pitched a Superman film to Warner Bros., with conversations seemingly ended. However, it appears that those conversations manifested into this current project with Outlier Society. Just a few months ago, J. J. Abrams and Ta-Nehisi Coates were confirmed to be crafting a Superman film for Warner Bros.. Rumors began to circulate that B. Jordan would be playing Kal-El in the film but the actor shut those rumors down.

Collider says that Michael B Jordan didn’t pursue the J. J. Abrams and Ta-Nehisi Coates project as it would have focused on Kal-El, a traditionally white character. The outlet discovered via Jamie Broadnax that Jordan wasn’t interested in race-bending the character and wanted to focus on an already black Superman.

Henry Cavill’s Superman can currently be seen in Zack Snyder’s Justice League. Here’s the official synopsis for the movie:

“In ZACK SNYDER’S JUSTICE LEAGUE, determined to ensure Superman’s (Henry Cavill) ultimate sacrifice was not in vain, Bruce Wayne (Ben Affleck) aligns forces with Diana Prince (Gal Gadot) with plans to recruit a team of metahumans to protect the world from an approaching threat of catastrophic proportions. The task proves more difficult than Bruce imagined, as each of the recruits must face the demons of their own pasts to transcend that which has held them back, allowing them to come together, finally forming an unprecedented league of heroes. Now united, Batman (Affleck), Wonder Woman (Gadot), Aquaman (Jason Momoa), Cyborg (Ray Fisher) and The Flash (Ezra Miller) may be too late to save the planet from Steppenwolf, DeSaad and Darkseid and their dreadful intentions.”

Directed by Zack Snyder, Justice League stars Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Gal Gadot, Ezra Miller, Jason Momoa, Ray Fisher, Jeremy Irons, Diane Lane, Connie Nielsen, J. K. Simmons, and Ciarán Hinds.
